well its that time of year again i considered it last year but this year ive decided it really is time to buy a new one

ive narrowed it down to two options the remington model 887 nitro mag or the mossberg 535 ats waterfowl

my questions are this on the mossberg they call it a waterfowl model but you can change out the choke so it could be used as an all around shotgun unless im mistakin if someone has input on this i would appreciate it.

they both have a 28 inch barrel and can take 2 3/4 up to 3 1/2 shot

i want a shotgun that i can use bird hunting, turkey hunting, and yes i will be using it for waterfowl as well, the only thing im not gunna use it for is deer i got the old school 30/30 for that.

i dont want to spend much over 400 so if you have any other opinions on models i should look at let me know.

i come to you at kps let me whats the best bang for my buck on an all around solid gun that is gunna last me awhile

i know a guy who is selling an 887 nitro mag for 300 i believe, brand new. its been shot once and i was with him. we shot about 2 boxes through it shooting clay but thats it. he got married and now is having some money problems, ill see if hes still wanting to sell it if youre interested.

Both of those are EXCELLENT choices for your wants and needs!!! You'll usually find the Mossberg for just a bit less but just check around and see which one you can get for the best money. They'll both work great for upland, waterfowl, turkey, skeet, defense, etc.....they're just great firearms!!!!

It's kinda funny how they qualify shotguns as 'upland game', 'turkey', 'waterfowl', etc.....the truth is that all of the Mossberg shotguns are based on the basic model 500 with different sights, choke options or finishes. The 535 should come with an extra full choke and a camo/flat black finish. It should be great for your upland game with an Improved Cylinder / Modified choke and then you and use the Full / Extra Full for your waterfowl and turkey needs. $300 would be a great deal if it comes with everything. The choke tubes run about $20-$30 at Cabela's if you have to get any.

Just go with the improved cylinder for skeet. It works just fine and gets you 'in-shape' for those fun quail hunts!!!!

Did they run you through the ringer? I've had pretty good luck buying guns from there but there are always exceptions to the rule.

its not cabelas i had a problem with exactly it was the guy working there i had the problem with. he couldnt answer any of my questions about the gun, he couldnt even find the gun on the rack directly behind him. luckily while he was spending an hour and a half running my info thru another guy working there answered my questions. and on top of it all the guy was rude to boot.

they had a great price on the gun so i was happy on that part

I've had that issue there as well. They really need to only have people who know firearms working behind the counter........and I don't mean some snob that thinks he's a know-it-all. Too many of them only have knowledge in certain areas as well. If thats the case, that person should only deal with customers that are looking for what he knows. Otherwise, get the customer to the guy that DOES know.

You're not the first, or last person i've heard that complaint from.

the dude that answered my questions was the know it all of guns and he really did know it all he answered a dudes questions on a pistol and even showed the guy working there how to tell it apart from the rest of the guns in the case.

wished i would have got the dudes name cause he knew his guns

Well that may be me before too long. :)
I started working there this week....but I get to work with the firearms before they get to the counter and racks. :) Hopefully it'll end up as a full-time gig but for now it's extra money doing what I already enjoy.
